SUCCESSION WARS

New oral anticoagulants: How do they compare? | theheart.org

This article is a good synopsis of what is proving to be a battle to take over the anticoagulation crown from warfarin. As the dose of these drugs are fixed, measurement of INR to help determine the dose of warfarin, is not necessary. Although as with all newly developed drugs, these will be expensive, their cost will be offset by the fact that anticoagulant clinics will no longer be necessary. Go figure - drugs causing unemployment! In addition to these savings, thousand of bed days will also be saved. In cardiac surgery, the main reason for prolonged inpatient stay after heart valve surgery , is initiation and stabilization of warfarin therapy. I can't wait for the day when warfarin will relegated to the dustbin of history.
